NGĀ TOHU O TE TAU HOU -MATARIKI / SIGNS OF THE MĀORI NEW YEAR
This educational programme will assist students and teachers in developing their understanding of the Signs of the Māori year. There are many signs of the Māori new year that our tīpuna once used, which we can still use today, such as recognising the winter solstice / Takanga o te Rā, as well as seeing Matariki rising pre dawn and other whetū.
The programme contains a booklet / portal for each student with localised learning to Ngāti Kahungunu within Te Matau a Māui (Hawkes Bay). It also comes with a booklet for the teacher on how to teach the resource providing answers for the lessons and activities. This is now also available on an online portal. This resource is by Ngāti Kahungunu, for Ngāti Kahungunu as well as all Iwi throughout Aotearoa. The approach taken in the resource is to link the exercises through to the various learning area of Te Mātaiaho / the refreshed NZ curricullum. And Te Marautanga o Aotearoa / Māori curriculum. The programme and booklet / portal can be delivered in English or Te Reo Māori.
